Does your car need a little extra help passing Maine’s annual State Vehicle Safety Inspections? At Quirk Chevrolet of Portland, we’re ready to go the extra mile to help your vehicle get up to speed. Here’s how you can make sure your car, truck, or SUV makes the grade.
Vehicles in Maine are subject to yearly Motor Vehicle Inspections. During this evaluation, a technician will perform a comprehensive examination of your vehicle. According to Maine’s Department of Public Safety, if your automobile doesn’t meet the test’s standards, you’ll have 20 days to make necessary repairs. Once your vehicle’s issues have been corrected, you can have it re-inspected to earn your sticker.
The safety inspection process evaluates everything from your vehicle’s brakes and tires to its suspension and fuel system. Even something simple or easily fixable can cause your vehicle to fail the inspection, such a check-engine light, worn-out brake pads, torn-up windshield wipers, cracked windows, and low-tread tires.
Since you have to pay a fee to have your vehicle inspected (and re-inspected), it’s a good idea to address possible issues to have them corrected before you have the inspection. Quirk Chevrolet of Portland is here to help with that.
In Cumberland County, vehicles from the year 1996 and newer are required to pass an emissions test in addition to the state-required Vehicle Safety Inspection. This is called the Onboard Diagnostics inspection. Vehicles that fail this test will need to receive necessary repairs before earning the Maine Safety Inspection approval sticker.
If your vehicle’s emission output isn’t up to par, you can bring it to the Quirk Chevrolet of Portland service center for a fuel system cleaning service.
After the inspection, you may receive a list of necessary repairs or notice that your vehicle has issues that need to be corrected, such as a busted headlight, steering that drifts, or brakes that squeal. Bring your vehicle to the Quirk Chevrolet of Portland service center for repairs.
